Toy Soldiers

another really interesting typographic work.

the artist uses toy soldiers, an unsual media to create letterforms.

Chocollider

A typeface made out of pieces of chocolate.

I'm really interested in using a different/diverse media to create type and this is an example of those types

Out Up Down In

By: Axel Peemoller

The designer works on a 3 dimensinal plane to create a 2D looking piece of work. The words, if looked at from a certain angle looks like a 2d writing but if one moves from that particularly point the word becomes almost unrecognisable. and the lines forming those words will just look like lines going from the floor to a wall.

I also liked the fact that it is in a parking lot and the works can actually be used as a informative thing.

Knockout graphics

Another type work that really interested me.

the letterforms look like they are made by a water mark that you get under cups and mugs. I think that is where the idea orginated from. The letter 'o' in particular brings the idea into mind. However the other letters are photoshopped to give a similar effect.

eggs

by: Lorenzo Geiger

A typeface made from removing and adding eggs onto a square egg crate.

The letterforms look almost digital and mechanical but they are actually images of eggs. I like the contrast between the method the typeface was made and how the end result actually looks. I dont know whethe that was intentional or not but form my point of view the contrast makes this piece really interesting.

Because Everything is Made From Small Things

This type illustration was done by an illustrator Nigel Peake.

I'm really interested in the use of negative spaces ( which I also applied in my work for the summer project) and how spaces around you can be used to determined a form which is not actually there.

Summer Brief Research

These typographic work were what I looked at when I was researching for my summer brief. I was really interested in working with type made out of paper when I cam across these two works.

The first one is just a leaflet that had been folded into certain letterforms and photographed from above.

I was particularly fond of the sencond one. The typeforms were modifications of already existing posted envelopes. Each individual letterforms were clear and legible and the authencity of the evvelopes was still preserved.
