The world's financial crisis

A campaign to raise awareness that people should start to respond to the world's financial crisis but instead we still see people spending money on luxury lifestyle.

The work contains a strong visual metonym of the logo of the National Geographic documentaries about the world.

Undersized Business Cards

When something small makes a big impression

a new design for business cards to meet cilents need and with growing concerns about the recession, economic and the environment this is what the company came up with.

they created small and undersized business cards with appelaing deisgns and thought provoking lines to interest clients.

I was really interested in the ideas and thought that the majority of the designs were impactful.

There is not much visual leteracy here but I would say that a visual metaphor would be the closest one to use to describe this project. The small business card would represent the clients appreciation and awareness for the enonimic crisis and decreasing the amount of unneccessary resource being used. The size of the card and what they say is a metaphor of one's consciene.

Splash

A really beautiful piece of graphic design. The identification of flowers and butterfly are being shown through water. Ilieve this is a piece of advertising for a bottled water brand and the designers are using a visual metaphor representing the quality of their water to flowers and things that associate people to positive things.

LVHRD BIFOLD: CNFLCT poste

Daren NewMan

This is an interesting design of a poster advertising an art fair. The poster is based on ornaments which are old fashioned and dated. The type is a signature type use for but it is still appropriate with this design. However, The other type used is very different Newman, crisp, clean and very direct. That type is used to for the details of this fair and the tag line which is attention grabbing

"Ornament is crime? "

I'm not particularly fond of of visual aesthetics of this poster but I think that it is appropriate to what it is trying to communicate with a well chosen typography and compositions.

I think that this work has an element of a visual synecdoche in it where the ornament doll is representing a bigger group of art enthusists

Nothing yet everything

Kenya Harris invites designers to explore the notion of "emptiness". He posits that we can facilitate conversation and exchange in graphic design by creating design that acts as a vessel for that communication to take place. emptiness

this project is a leaflet that on one side, houses some of the thoughts on the empty vessel and on the other side, provides one such vessel to contemplate.

The idea for this project seems quite strange and perhaps thought provoking. ( I don't know whether to think that the idea is a little bit pretentious )
however, the design that came with is, I think is really beautiful. The leaflet design is subtle and light but the message on it is quite interesting. On one side is all the thoughts of the group of designers and on the other side which is meant to be the empty vessel is filled in with interesting imagery.

I like that one the onside is it purely type and then on the other, one image is visible. everything is clean and crisp. It is the something in the "emptiness" that is really beautiful

Utterrubbish: A Collection of UseLess Ideas

Utterubbish is an exhibition that presents ideas and works by 30 designers collaborating their exploration on how design can create value for individuals and society. socially culturally, emotionally, economically, commercially and intellectually.

the exhibition covers a wide range of creative disciplines, including product, furniture. fashion, graphic, environmental design and architecture. the themes includes sustainable design and eco-design.

The fact that leading designers from different fields put together and create an exhibition to raise peoples conscience really interested me .

The concept and lay out of the exhibition

are visually engaging and I think that the title of the exhibition works so effectively to get people's attention. Even if you are not interested in art, if there is an exhibition called UtterRubbish/ UseLess in you would be intrigued to what to would be about.

So I think with this post, I researched it after I found the design for the book for made for the exhibition, I'm more interested in the idea/concept itself rather than the design. I think the concept is culturally relevant to a lot of us, especially those who wish to practice design in the future.
