D. Billy

I Found these work from a book called Tangible. A book about contemporary design using different materials and space to create imaginative work. It is one of my favourite Graphic design books. The book demonstrate how new Graphic Designers are using 3D spaces and combining them with old ways of working such as creating a work in a non digital way( handmade). It shows that inspirational work and be created from something simple, for example balloon and coloured tape.

KIM font

A really interesting type created by Matthias Tratz. The letterforms are all based around one constraint which is that all the componants can only follow the line creating a cube.

An outline of a three dimentional shape is used as a structure for a whoel alphabet which all follow one simple rule. I like how simple this is and yet it looks very sophisticated and well thought out. The designer takes a simple shape and with it, he created a very interesting piece of typography

Simon Schubert-Paper Engieer

I'm not sure how Graphic Design related these pieces of works are but I thought that the idea behind them is really clever and the crafting of these works.

The idea is not hugely complex but it is highly innovative. The crafting quality of these works are so detailed.

The German artist, Simon Schubert, folds creases on a piece of paper to create a 3D drawing of an an archietectural and interrior scenes. The depth in which each of the pieces contain is remarkable. the precision in each fo the creases and how heavy each the creases are porvide this amazing three dimensional effect

Jen Stark's paper sculpture

These beautifully crafted paper sculptures are done by Jen Stark. Her works were inspired when she was at college tavelled to France. She didnt take any art supplies with her and had to purchased them there. She decided to buy the cheapest and " the collest " art supply that was there and it turned out to be a pile of assorted coloured paper.

These paper sculptures are made out of cut out layers and layers of different coloured paper. The crafting quality in all of these works are amazing and the fact that the material that is being used is so accessible and by using a single blade, the artist created all this work.

After Stark started to create more of these paper sculptures. She created a piece of work that was displayed in the Miama Gallery just as she was getting more and more well known. On the gallery floor lays a pile of scraps of paper and the work was titled, " How to become a millionaire in 100 days". The artist spent 100 days cutting out 1,000,000 peices of paper to create a statement about the overly commercialised art market.

PVC Pipe font

A typeface created by Lee Stokes. The typefce was creating by manipulating pvc pipes. T he idea was inspired by the topic of floods/flooding . The type is used to create a poster with a positive message for communities in Britain who were victims of flooding.

Worn Typeface

A typeface created by Sruli Recth. The typeface is named Worn after how it appears. The type is meant to represent a pen which is worn out and low on ink. The style of the type is a typical serif type, the only difference is that all the letterforms are missing some of their stems, to be more specific, the lighter ones. I like that the type still holds its orginal form eventhough parts of each of the letterforms are missing.

Fabric Type

A typographic work created by Tania Alvarez. beutifully drawn letterforms and typogrphic work inspired by the fluidity and the movement of fabric.

The artists combines typogrpahy with imagery and turns the piece of work into a large drawing. I love the details and the qulity of the drawings. Each lines look like them have been carefully considered.

Overseas Type +

Tania Alvarez

ThreeTHREE: Terrarium Typeface

A innovative typographic work by Olena Shmahalo. The artist uses cut out white colured blocks to create letterforms. The works are displayed amongst tree models used in model houses and archietechture.

With this piece of work I was interested int he way in which the aritst presented her work. the letterforms descend down from a-z connected by vines an d greens.

I get out of bed for this

Narani Kannan created this beautifully drawn typographic work. I really like all the drawn lines which i believe was done by using a pen and then the yellow splodges are printed over the drawings.

I'm interested in handdrawn types whihc needs a lot of crafting and this one really caught my attention as it is the typical style of drawing that I really plus. The printing aspect also makes the piece more interesting. however i think it also loses its authencity due to that

Betany May

Print works by illustrator Betany May. I haven't actually looked up very many screen print works but I came across this one and I thought it was really lovely. Especially the first one, I think it can be called an illustration. The illustration of mountains made out of triangular shapes in different colours.

I really love the playfulness of these pieces of work, and the fact that they are made out of one geometric shape.

I like the simplicity of it all and how the artist just usesv colours and composition to make these prints really interesting.

the intention washed colours on the print also makes it all seem, modest and authentic.

Roland Tiangco

Dirt Poster
This poster is covered in ink on one side and the readers are the ones who make the content of the poster visible by completing the empty side by making their hands dirty and then handking the poster.

The poster reveals a body of text which says
" The future belongs to the few of us who are willing to get our hands dirty"

This piece of poster design is, a piece of art and also an advertisement. It is cleverly designed and interacts witht he audience and therefore a message is heard and appreciated.

David Brownings

A graphic design work done by David Brownings. The artist created objects such a trainers by using coloured paper. David Browning uses purely coloured paper and a craft knife to create these pieces of the work.

I'm very interested in handmade designs, especially with the use of paper. Graphic designers now are looking back to working in a non digital media and using their crafting skills rather their clicking skills to create beautifully crafted pieces od work.

INVDR /Jonathon Yule

These are called font-bots. A series of typographic illustration on san serif typefaces.

Jonathan Yule uses letterforms from his favourite san serif typefaces to create an image of robots. the image is made purely by manipulating positions of each letterforms and the upper/lower case. Special forms are also used to increase the detials of each picture.

Oded Ezer

A manipulation of the typeface Helvetica.
